Day Shift-Pipe Welder

About the role

Location: Port Arthur, TX — relocation or daily commute required. No per diem provided.

Schedule: Day shift, four 10‑hour days (Monday–Thursday).

Pay: $37.90 per hour. Candidates must have 5 years of pipe welding experience and be able to pass the following tests: 2″ super coupon 6G TIG all the way out; 2″ super coupon 6G MIG root / flux‑core fill and cap.

Responsibilities

• Assemble pipe components by tacking them in place prior to welding.
• Confirm squareness of all joints fit‑up.
• Confirm configuration of all joints fit‑up.
• Confirm pipe joints are aligned properly (taper bore if necessary).
• Confirm pipe spool is built according to isometric drawings (center‑to‑center or center‑to‑end dimensions).
• Verify correct length, material, type, and grade of pipe and fittings prior to tacking.
• Retrieve material and ensure it corresponds with the parts list.
• Lift pipe with crane to fit‑up bench.
• Perform welding, cutting, grinding, measurement, and layout tasks.
• Weld joints.
• Grind out temporary tacks.
• Position pieces to be welded.
• Purge pipe to be welded.
• Record filler rod heat numbers.
• Identify own welds by etching a weld number next to the joint.
• Inspect welds after completion and make any needed corrections.
• Keep work area clean and organized to prevent slips and trips.
• Conduct work safely and follow all safety procedures; reject unsafe work and discuss with supervisor.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years on‑the‑job welding experience.
• Ability to pass X‑ray inspection and weld multiple processes.
• Ability to MIG root with down‑hill progression / flux‑core fill and cap with up‑hill progression (6″ diameter).
• Ability to TIG weld out with all passes being up‑hill progression.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percent, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
