Coordinates and supports the CHAI Works program for adults with mild to moderate developmental disabilities and psychiatric needs, focusing on skill-building in integrated volunteer and work settings.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and provide comprehensive daily assistance to participants, including community integration and participation in activities/groups.
- Independently supervise participants at the JF&CS location and in the community.
- Maintain continuous programming from participant arrival to departure, minimizing downtime.
- Act as a role model by demonstrating appropriate dress, language, and character skills.
- Instruct, supervise, and support participants—individually or in groups—in behavior management, personal development, social skills, work attitude, work skills, personal care, communication, self-advocacy, and other areas identified in annual plans.
- Tailor support to participants’ learning styles, strengths, and needs to help them achieve their goals.
- Ensure volunteer work meets site expectations, assisting participants to work efficiently and accurately.
- Implement Health and Safety policies and procedures, including familiarity with evacuation routes, safe evacuations, maintaining clear aisles, reporting unsafe situations, monitoring participants during breaks, and safely transporting participants to community sites.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, perform light housekeeping, and train participants to keep work areas orderly.
- Participate in job development activities to create individual placements and volunteer sites.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with program staff and stakeholders.
- Establish rapport, professional relationships, and appropriate boundaries with participants, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Build strong relationships with JF&CS staff and community partners providing work and volunteer opportunities.
- Organize and update participant records; complete required paperwork accurately and on time.
- Complete daily ECM notes for each assigned participant.
- Prepare monthly progress notes, annual assessments, vocational exploration assessments, and other required documents, including creating measurable ISP goals and implementation strategies for all assigned participants.
- Ensure implementation of participants’ ISP objectives and corresponding data collection; document progress and needs related to goals.
- Train other program staff on ISP implementation.
- Support participants’ choices in program planning; participate in team meetings and support planning.
- Act as a resource to participants, families, referral and residential staff; maintain positive relationships with referral agencies.
- Transport participants in program vans and personal vehicles, as assigned.
- Pick up/drop off vans located off-site, as assigned.
- Work with participant groups that do not meet at JF&CS or in the community.
- Work at other JF&CS day program locations, as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred.
- Excellent teamwork, initiative, and interpersonal/communication skills.
- Ability to pass First Aid/CPR/Medication Administration Program trainings.
- Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and proof of insurance.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including intermediate skills in Outlook and Word, and basic skills in Excel (or willingness to develop within 90 days of hire).
- Knowledge and regular use of ECM database (training provided by JF&CS).
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- May include assisting participants in and out of wheelchairs and vehicles.
