About the role
A Day Care Aide assists in planning and implementing daily activities, supervises and monitors children to ensure their safety during both indoor and outdoor activities, and maintains a clean and healthy environment by adhering to safety and sanitation guidelines. They support routine activities such as eating, napping, and personal hygiene, while also observing and reporting on children's behavior and development to the lead teacher or supervisor. Engaging with children through reading, playing, and encouraging creativity and learning is a key part of the role.
Reports to: Director of the Day Care Program
Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise playtime activities, including arts and crafts, sports, music, and dance.
- Monitor children for behavioral or emotional issues and communicate observations to parents.
- Plan and serve snacks and meals, including food preparation, cleaning dishes, and involving children in serving and cleanup.
- Respond to basic emergencies and ensure children's welfare; trained in CPR and basic first aid.
- Adhere to state laws on child safety procedures and maintain a safe environment.
- Follow protocols for administering medications and responding to health emergencies.
- Set up and break down the care space.
- Write daily, weekly, or monthly reports on children's behaviors and habits for parents and educators.
- Assist with logistical tasks such as tracking payments and scheduling staff based on attendance.
Physical Demands
- Lift 35 pounds using proper technique.
- Adequate vision to review documents in varied formats (paper and digital).
- Adequate hearing to respond to children, staff, and interact with the public.
- Ability to stand for up to 3 hours.
- Currently in excellent health and free of communicable diseases.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years old or older.
- High school degree, GED, or equivalent (minimum).
- Experience working with young children preferred.
- Friendly, adaptable, and enjoys learning.
- Must comply with PA State clearance requirements.
- Must respect the Catholic Church and comply with the school’s code of conduct.
