Qualifications
- A minimum of 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Experience supporting individuals with cognitive, emotional, or developmental disabilities (e.g. ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ODD) preferred.
- Background or coursework in psychology, social work, education, or related field preferred.
- Become CPR/First Aid/AED certified prior to first camp session worked.
- Strong ability to manage behavioral situations with calmness and professionalism.
- Demonstrated experience in inclusive practices or trauma-informed care preferred.
- Ability to support behavior redirection and transitional routines.
- Team-oriented environment, maintaining non-judgmental and empathetic attitudes toward children and families.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army.
- Implement inclusive integration strategies under the direction of the Arts, Education & Camp Manager.
- Follow approved guidelines for the Sensory Room, including procedures, policies, rules, documentation, and behavioral tier chart.
- Provide flexible behavioral support to campers with disabilities in real-time during structured and unstructured camp activities.
- Aid in transitions, redirection, and de-escalation during daily camp routines.
- Maintain a calm, supportive, and proactive presence when behavior challenges arise.
- Utilize trauma-informed approaches to encourage emotional regulation and peer inclusion.
- Collaborate with Day Camp Counselors to ensure consistent behavior management approaches.
- Escort and supervise campers using the Sensory Room as directed, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
- Maintain documentation as required by the Arts, Education & Camp Manager, including Sensory log sheets, Notice of Concerns, RTP’s, and/or verbal communication with parents/guardians.
- Communicate observations and concerns to the camp leadership team.
- Attend staff training sessions and contribute to continuous improvement of inclusive practices.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of sensory tools and calming spaces.
- Maintain confidentiality in all camper and program matters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
