Davenport Machine Operator 1 - 2nd Shift

About the role

The Production Specialty Machine Level I position involves performing basic set-ups and operating specialty machines to achieve all company targets and standards. You must be able to run at least 3 specialty machines, including Threadroll, Grind, Heading, Tooling, CNC, and Multi-spindle (Davenport). This role requires maintaining the expected level of competency in accordance with skills assessment.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic set-ups and operate 3 specialty machines to produce parts according to blueprints, router packages, specifications, and/or special instructions.
• Recognize and detect machine out-of-tolerance conditions and adjust controls or control media as required.
• Perform basic trial runs to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Check parts for conformance to specifications using gauges, SPC, and shop floor systems.
• Recognize and remedy minor machine malfunctions; report major discrepancies to lead or supervisor.
• Determine and perform proper feed and speed combinations.
• Provide necessary information to the Manufacturing team, Engineering Team, or others to document procedures and drawings.
• Perform work operations under supervision.
• Check tooling and rework as needed to keep machines running.
• Lay out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.
• Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards by following blueprints or work instructions.
• Participate and maintain LEAP and APU/GAP standards.
• Engage in PSM1 meetings, reporting any ongoing and long-term problems encountered.
• Sustain actions regarding projects and workshops.
• Perform record keeping, data entry, and housekeeping; follow all safety regulations.
• Comply with rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
• Attend all provided training and adhere to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans.
• Report any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management immediately.
• Seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results.
• Work under recommended waste elimination initiatives, such as recycling opportunities to minimize production waste.
• Perform a variety of other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred but not required.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience and/or training within an aerospace fastener manufacturing and/or industrial shop; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; knowledge of basic shop math.
• Reasoning ability to comprehend detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills and departmental applications such as SPC and Shop Floor System.

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand for extended periods, speak or listen, and walk.
• Frequently required to use eye-hand coordination, repetitive hand movement, and manual dexterity; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Must frequently bend, reach to shoulder level, and lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 30 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Hearing level within normal/average range.

Work Environment

• The work environment is usually loud.
• Compliance with company and governmental safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations and procedures is required.
• Must wear personal safety equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, or proper footwear PPE in specified areas.
