About the role
AWS is seeking a database specialist Solutions Architect to advise State & Local Government, Education, and emerging technology customers on complex database migration and modernization projects. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with customer-facing consulting skills to architect solutions that drive measurable business outcomes.
Responsibilities
Design and architect end-to-end database solutions for public sector customers, leading technical discussions on complex migration and modernization strategies across relational databases (Amazon RDS, Aurora), NoSQL services (DynamoDB, DocumentDB), and specialized database engines (Neptune, ElastiCache, MemoryDB).
Lead complex database migration assessments, performance optimization engagements, and architecture reviews, applying technical judgment to evaluate trade-offs in scalability, reliability, cost optimization, and operational excellence.
Provide strategic technical guidance to customers through 1:1 advisory sessions and 1:many enablement workshops, translating business requirements into technical solutions that address their unique challenges in the competitive database landscape.
Drive database service adoption and revenue growth by contributing to go-to-market strategy, creating reusable technical content (workshops, reference architectures, best practices), and mentoring field Solutions Architects through office hours and knowledge sharing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, product, and engineering to gather customer feedback, influence database service roadmaps, and ensure customer requirements are translated into actionable product enhancements.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree
5+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
8+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
Qualifications
Cloud Technology Certification (such as Solutions Architecture, Cloud Security Professional or Cloud DevOps Engineering)
Knowledge of AWS services, market segments, customer base and industry verticals
Experience working with end user or developer communities
Knowledge of cloud architecture
Knowledge of software development tools and methodologies
