Database Developer
Clearance: Active Public Trust in DHS or a component of DHS. Hybrid role in Ashburn, VA (1-2 days per week).
About the role
The Database Developer will work with a team of database developers and database administrators to support an active program of application development—creating new structures, updating existing ones, and managing data within large, complex databases. This is a great opportunity to learn a new domain and new skill sets in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain database structures, including writing DDL, DML, and DCL
- Perform data profiling, cleansing, reporting, data staging, and ETL jobs
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries, troubleshoot performance issues, and tune SQL
- Develop Python scripts for automation and data processing
- Utilize Git for version control and collaborate with team members using Agile methodology and Jira
- Work with AWS services, including data migration, validation, data pipelines, CloudWatch, Kibana, and Dynatrace
- Collaborate with program staff and customers to reach design decisions within given constraints
- Learn new tools quickly to provide innovative solutions for problem-solving
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years in database development roles
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL database development
- Strong experience creating complex SQL in complex data environments
- Experience troubleshooting, tuning SQL, and writing performance queries
- Experience writing Python scripts
- Experience with Git/version control
- AWS experience, including data migration, validation, data pipelines, CloudWatch, Kibana, and Dynatrace
- Ability to learn new tools quickly and adapt to evolving requirements
- Excellent diplomacy and communication skills with both clients and technical staff
- Willingness to learn DB2 if not already a skill set
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with federal government clients
- Experience with Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, or Teradata
- Experience with Databricks, PySpark, Liquibase, or DMS
- Experience in database administration
- Experience with Agile methodology and Jira for tracking
Pay
Estimated salary range for this position is $100,000 – $125,000. Offered salary is based on experience, geographic location, and possibly contractual requirements as appropriate to the role.
