Database Administrator - PostgreSQL

Job Duties / Key Accountabilities

• Provision PostgreSQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations
• Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
• Implement, and maintain replication strategies
• Analyze performance and implement improvements
• Prepare documentations and specifications
• Experience in database software management (patch and version management)
• Handle common database procedures, such as backup, recovery, migration, etc.
• Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
• Write scripts to generate adhoc reports, perform data audits, etc using bash or Python

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL database management and optimization
• Experience managing large scale PostgreSQL databases
• Understanding of PostgreSQL user access and authentication processes and controls
• Experience with replication configuration in PostgreSQL
• Hands on experience with designing and implementing database replication strategies
• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in PostgreSQL
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL features, such as pgagent or pgbouncer
• Able to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
• Knowledge of limitations in PostgreSQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
• Experience administering Debian or Ubuntu Linux
• Able to work under pressure and multi-task
