Job Description

Lead database administration efforts for a large-scale enterprise application supporting mission-critical business operations.

Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize IDMS databases in a high-availability IBM z/OS mainframe environment.

Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and database teams to support development, testing, staging, and production environments.

Configure, tune, and optimize database performance by analyzing system metrics and implementing performance improvements.

Design, implement, and maintain database operational procedures, standards, and best practices.

Provide technical leadership on database architecture, deployment strategies, security, and data model enhancements.

Support application teams by recommending optimal database solutions and resolving complex database issues.

Coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders and external partners to ensure successful project delivery.

Participate in database deployments, upgrades, migrations, and production support activities.

Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation to maintain critical system availability.

Contribute to project planning, technical estimations, resource planning, and implementation strategies.

Prepare technical documentation and communicate project status, recommendations, and solutions to technical and business stakeholders.

Ensure database security, integrity, reliability, and compliance with organizational standards.

Mentor team members and promote database administration best practices.

Perform additional database administration and technical leadership responsibilities as required.

Required Skills

  • 15+ years of experience administering IDMS databases in IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
  • 10+ years of experience with IDMS SQL Option, including relational database implementation and SQL-based database support.
  • Extensive experience implementing and managing IDMS database security.
  • Strong experience programming with COBOL and ADS/O for native and SQL-based IDMS databases.
  • Experience with IBM High Level Assembler (HLASM) on z/OS.
  • Experience using IDMS Perfmon for monitoring and performance reporting.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise application development and implementation methodologies.
  • Experience with project planning, technical effort estimation, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

  • RACF security administration experience.
  • Application change management experience.
  • Experience working with healthcare or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience supporting Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS).
  • Experience handling PHI/PII data.
  • Public sector experience is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
