Job Overview

The Lead Database Administrator is part of a team working closely with both security and application development groups and reports to the Head of IT Infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a proven track record as a subject matter expert in managing complex, mission critical database environments.

Objectives

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Work with the Head of IT Infrastructure to ensure appropriate staffing levels are met.
    • Prioritize and coordinate database team staff for engineering and operations activities.
    • Sharing knowledge with team members helps improve the team's overall skills and performance.
    • Drive a collaborative culture that values technical depth, accountability, and customer service.
  • Infrastructure Strategy & Architecture
    • Collaborate on the design and building of the complete production IT infrastructure required to run a highly secure and highly available set of applications across multiple data centers.
    • Collaborate on the design and building of the corporate IT infrastructure.
    • Collaborate with peers to generate realistic technical roadmaps across the whole organization.
  • Operations, Monitoring & Reliability
    • Identify tools needed for the NOC team to ensure proper monitoring and operation.
    • Implement and maintain controls and monitoring procedures to ensure availability of critical systems, and minimal service interruptions.
  • Governance, Compliance & Quality
    • Adhere to quality standards and procedures to ensure the best specifications are always met and maintained.
    • Collaborate with the compliance team to provide required resources, appropriate documentation, and secure access during audits.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement
    • Stay on the forefront of emerging technologies to recommend new technology and ideas that improve the platform and efficiency.
    • Be able to adapt to new technologies, applications, and perform critical required duties as necessary.
  • Financial & Vendor Strategy
    • Determine when services should be outsourced to lower costs and/or free up internal team members to tackle tasks that give National Digital Trust Company (In Organization) a competitive advantage without losing required security or functionality.
  • Availability & Travel Requirements
    • Occasional travel to other customers, and vendor offices.
    • Ability to share in on call rotation and work with remote locations around the world during their hours, as needed.

    What you bring to NDTC

    • Experience & Business Expertise
      • A minimum of 10 years of experience in technology positions with an emphasis on infrastructure services.
      • Knowledge of business concepts, and an understanding of the links between major business processes, products, systems, and networks.
      • Track record of working collaboratively and productively with business partners.
    • Technical Expertise (Database Administration)
      • Installing and upgrading the server and application tools
      • Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for database system
      • Creating primary database storage structures driven from application requirements
      • Creating primary objects (tables, views, indexes, etc.) based on application requirements
      • Modifying database structures
      • Enrolling users and maintaining database security
      • Ensuring licensing compliance
      • Controlling and monitoring user access to databases
      • Maintaining database performance
      • Planning backup and recovery of data
      • Backing up and restoring the database environment
      • Contacting technical support when needed
      • Continuous integration/delivery
    • Management and Professional Skills
      • Demonstrated administrative, financial, project management, and vendor management skills.
      • Ability to set and communicate priorities and manage multiple tasks

      • Postgres database administration
      • IaC (Infrastructure-as-Code)
