Database Administrator 3
About the role
The successful candidate will work with Full-stack Java applications on HHSC's cloud platform (Azure/AWS) within an Agile (Scrum) environment. The role will involve migrating data from Oracle applications to SQL schemas and loading it into collections. Additionally, the candidate will optimize database performance during and after migration, identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, and implement monitoring solutions to track database health and performance metrics.
Responsibilities
- Creates and maintains logical and physical data models.
- Designs enterprise applications and/or services.
- Develops technical and functional design documentation.
- Works within the software development life cycle using Agile methodology (Scrum).
- Develops multi-tier system/application development (SOA, Microservices, 3-Tier applications).
- Converts Oracle Stored Procedures and Functions to Azure SQL.
- Ensures data integrity and control redundancy.
- Loads and reorganizes databases as needed.
- Performs data modeling and prototyping.
- Performs logical and physical data modeling, designs relational database models, and creates physical data models from logical data models.
- Performs security recovery procedures.
- Determines and implements database search strategies and storage requirements.
- Maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and sets standards for use of data dictionary.
- Maintains database performance and recommends efficiency improvements.
- Creates test database environment for applications section, including the creation of necessary libraries and procedures.
- Executes procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures within established procedures.
- Assists with disaster recovery procedures and systems.
- Assists with the installation of database software and with analyzing, designing, and implementing databases.
- Assists in benchmarking and threshold testing of databases and with establishing and controlling necessary database security.
- Assists in the selection of database management software.
Requirements
- Experience in computer systems analysis or computer programming work.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems design; of computer operations, systems, and procedures; of project control and cost estimating techniques; of computer programming languages; of data processing flowcharting techniques; of database structures and theories; and of current database technologies.
- Working knowledge of EIR Accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
- Experience with large volume databases, high availability, and disaster recovery infrastructure.
- Experience with Azure.
- Experience with Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into Azure SQL.
- Experience in DevOps technology including CI/CD pipeline and build and deployment tools such as Git.
- Experience in Java/J2EE Enterprise Development.

- Experience in DevOps technology including CI/CD pipeline and build and deployment tools such as Git: 3 Preferred

Benefits
Payment for work over 40 hours will be at the hourly rate quoted and must be coordinated and pre-approved through the Agency.

Schedule
Services shall be provided during normal business hours unless otherwise coordinated through the Agency. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., excluding Texas state holidays when the agency is closed. The primary work location will be 701 W. 51st, Austin, Texas 78751. Position will be 3 days remote with 2 days (Mon & Fri) required to be onsite at the location listed above. Program will only allow candidates who are LOCAL TO THE AUSTIN AREA ONLY (Within 50-mile radius).
