About the role

This Senior Information Technology Analyst develops, maintains, and enhances automated data-warehouse applications. The role coordinates activities with other data-warehouse teams on complex, multi-team projects, reviews and modifies existing policies and practices, and proposes new ones.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data-warehouse ETL processes and queries using SQL, Business Intelligence tools, and relational databases.
  • Represent the team and coordinate with other data-warehouse teams on multi-team projects.
  • Review, modify, and propose data-warehouse policies and practices.
  • Work with data-warehouse developers to ensure alignment with business and technical requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical study.
  • 6+ years of experience creating Data Warehouse BI applications, including ETL/data mart development, reporting, dashboards, and information analysis and delivery systems.
  • 2+ years of experience with Child Welfare Services, Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Services, or related areas.

Skills

  • Required: Strong knowledge of SQL, Business Intelligence tools, and relational databases.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with SQL Assistant or Teradata Studio.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  • Desired:
    • Experience with State of Michigan PMM/SUITE/Agile methodology.
    • End-user training experience.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with programmers, analysts, management, system users, operations, other state agencies, and private-sector organizations.
    • Experience gathering requirements and analyzing business problems.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Experience working with Data Modelers and developers.
    • Experience modifying logical designs to create physical designs suitable for reporting requirements.
    • Ability to design applications considering data reconciliation, source-system validation, query/reporting performance, and business value.
    • Experience presenting information to Project Review Boards, Project Sponsors, workgroups, and Technical Review Boards.
    • Experience consulting with agency stakeholders and explaining complex IT processes and solutions.
    • Experience developing and maintaining communication plans with technical and business stakeholders.
    • Experience assisting Architects or DBAs with technical database models.
    • Knowledge of audit separation-of-duty requirements.
    • Experience capturing and designing data elements based on application requirements.
    • Experience reviewing and approving system documentation.
    • Experience analyzing the impact and risks of proposed legislation, enhancements, government requests, and process changes.
    • Experience providing technical expertise for IT project estimating and budgeting.
    • Team leadership experience, including directing code development and mentoring development staff.
    • Experience identifying opportunities for programming process and tool standardization.
    • Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
    • Knowledge of production change management processes.
    • Experience reviewing and approving test plans.
    • Experience incorporating security requirements into test plans.
