About the role

The state maintains an enterprise data warehouse built on the Teradata ecosystem. This position serves as a platform administrator for the EDW, consisting of three distinct platforms (Production, Development/Disaster Recovery, and Test).

Responsibilities

  • Research and coordinate long-term EDW strategies with all current and potential users, DTMB management, and vendor personnel.
  • Define technical planning, implementation plans, and delivery of EDW platform services and supporting technologies to meet the State of Michigan's business requirements and objectives.
  • Communicate with vendors for EDW strategy, report and troubleshoot issues, manage releases and patches.
  • Provide operating system guidance and EDW security expertise for the systems.
  • Advise agencies on disaster recovery planning strategies related to the EDW and their business applications.
  • Resolve performance issues related to the EDW platform.
  • Provide direct technical expertise to department DBAs and specialists across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience with Teradata database, including upgrades, provisioning, software maintenance, scripting (BASH, Perl, Python, Glink), and Teradata ecosystem health monitoring.
  • Experience with Teradata node management, Teradata Viewpoint administration, Teradata Tools and Utilities (TTU), PSIM (Platform Service Intelligent Monitoring) administration, Teradata vendor upgrades, Teradata workload management, Teradata backup & recovery, performance tuning, and resource optimization.
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux, cloud computing fundamentals, resource allocation, networking, and preferably Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with statistics, audits, and security plans, including familiarity with federal requirements such as NIST 800-53, IRS Pub 1075, SSA, and Medicaid.

  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate with various stakeholders.
  • Experience with ETL processes and data transformation tools.
