About the role

The Employee will perform duties and responsibilities in various clinics in a medical treatment facility on a regular and recurring basis including clinical and specialty areas, in-patient and outpatient care areas.

Responsibilities

  • Accompanies licensed independent practitioners (LIP) during patient visits and documents/transcribes information in the electronic health record (HER) that transpires during each visit.
  • Affirms accurate data entry of the patient history, exam findings verbalized by LIP, procedures, orders, diagnostic/test results, and clinic encounters.
  • Facilitates the flow of patients through the clinic by queuing orders, referrals, tests, medications, encounters, and signing and forwarding the documentation to the LIP for approval.
  • Ensures medical records are prepared for treatment team review; assembles information in correct sequential and chronological order; and assures forms are complete, accurate and signed.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and recommends changes to improve programs.
  • Enters appointment management information in electronic databases to ensure workload credit and statistical information is maintained for the medical center.
  • Researches information requested by the LIP to assist with coordinating referrals. Prepares operative reports, makes phone calls and performs other clerical tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 25 words per minute.
  • EXPERIENCE: Experience includes performing work such as transcribing information into an electronic record, ensuring accuracy, spelling, punctuation and grammar; utilizing a variety of computer applications/software such as word processing, spreadsheet database and audio-visual presentation software. Due to the major duties and responsibilities of this position, all applicants should have knowledge of medical terminology. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional organizational skills and show the ability to accurately document medical records.

  • SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed 2 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

  • COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of one year) and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

The work is sedentary and does not require any special physical effort. Some work may require walking and standing, and carrying light items (e.g., papers, books, portable computer). The work often requires long hours to meet project deadlines and to devise corrective action and solutions to unexpected technical and/or management crises resulting in highly stressful work situations. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions.
