Brief Description
Position: Data Scientist I
Location: Alexandria, VA
Work Environment: Onsite
Clearance Required: Secret, requires TS/SCI
Status: Funded
Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Conducts data analytics, data manipulation, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis.
- Uses scientific techniques to correlate data into graphical, written, visual, and verbal narrative products.
- Enter and analyze data within government systems.
- Agregate data sets across numerous applications and develop trend analysis.
- Create products demonstrating these trends.
- Modify and update existing data sources to provide relevant program related outcome metrics.
- Maintain dashboards to automate data analysis, identifying, interpreting, and presenting trends, designed to record POTFF-related programmatic data.
- Affiliate with POTFF staff and the Government’s POTFF biostatistician.
- Provide consultation and assistance to supported units and POTFF staff to identify opportunities and methods for capturing data related to POTFF programs and initiatives.
- Use statistics/modeling tools and data visualization techniques to provide an accessible way to see and understand trends, outliers, and patterns in data to produce reports and presentations that accurately convey data trends supporting the mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative science, social science, or a related discipline.
- Basic proficiency with the suite of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Access.
- Basic proficiency with commonly used statistical software applications such as SPSS, SAS, Python, and R-Shiny.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently and clearly to effectively communicate with all personnel they will interact with.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, presentation skills, and high detail orientation.
- Sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity such that they can relate constructively to a variety of contacts from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification or documented experience with Human Performance.
- Experience working with Special Operations, athletics/sports, or other military settings.
- Strong technical and analytical skills in SQL Server, Databricks, Apache Spark (PySpark), Python, Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
- Knowledge of ETL/ELT development, dimensional data modeling, data governance, machine learning, statistical analysis, NLP, large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented workflows, and data pipeline orchestration.
- Experience supporting enterprise analytics, dashboard development, predictive modeling, and low-code automation solutions in Microsoft and cloud-based data environments.
