Data Science Director - Marketing Investment Analytics
About the role
The Data Science Director - Marketing Investment Analytics will play a pivotal role in providing inputs, insights, and recommendations towards shaping and implementing Amgen's marketing strategies. This role will lead the team responsible for analyzing the performance of commercial investments across various channels and provide analytical support throughout the investment lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and evolve market level marketing mix models to estimate the causal impacts of marketing activities on Amgen's financial outcomes in the short and long term
- Leverage non-linear constrained optimization to operationalize the suite of Marketing Mix Models and develop a scenario planning and optimization tool that can be used by the Marketing Analytics and Marketing teams to optimize marketing investments across products, channels, markets, and time
- Lead causal inference and econometric analyses to understand and influence key levers of business growth with a crisp understanding of incremental impact. Design, implement, and analyze experiments and quasi-experiments to measure the impact of new commercial initiatives
- Accountable for measurement of spend efficiency and for recommendations on optimization of future spend across brands, tactics, channels, and audience types
- Collaborate with Marketing, Media, Finance and other Analytics teams to help create marketing budgets and supervise spending to ensure cost-effectiveness and improve ROI
- Hire, coach, mentor and lead a team of analytical leads that deliver data driven recommendations that inform commercial investment decisions
Requirements
- Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience in a quantitative field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics)
- Or Masters degree and 8 years of experience in a quantitative field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics)
- Or Bachelors degree and 10 years of experience in a quantitative field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics)
- Experience in pharmaceutical marketing or healthcare marketing, particularly analytics, data science and measurement roles
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, regulations, and market dynamics preferred
- Strong analytical skills (data sciences, primary market research/secondary data analytics/forecasting) with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven investment decisions
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence partners
- Proficiency in data analytics tools to drive strategic decision-making
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Qualifications

- Or Bachelors degree and 10 years of experience in a quantitative field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics)
- At least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources
Skills
- Collaborate with senior collaborators to translate business requirements into analytical plan and effectively communicate complex ideas/solutions to influence practical decision-making
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, regulations, and market dynamics preferred
- Strong analytical skills (data sciences, primary market research/secondary data analytics/forecasting) with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven investment decisions

Pay
The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
Schedule
This is a flex commuter/hybrid position in either Thousand Oaks, CA or Deerfield, IL offices, expected to be in office up to 3 times a week.
