About the role

The role is within a research lab focused on making intelligence open and accessible for everyone. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the data strategy and ensuring high-quality data is available for cutting-edge AI research.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of the lab’s research, product, and business roadmap.
  • Work closely with researchers to translate the roadmap into data needs and quality requirements, then design sourcing strategies and pipelines to meet those needs.
  • Evaluate suppliers, negotiate agreements, and verify deliverables for new initiatives and partnerships.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to maximize research velocity while maintaining data quality.
  • Build deep knowledge of the broader data ecosystem to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Understand what makes training data genuinely good and reliably deliver it.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, venture capital, private equity, or consulting.
  • Experience owning large ambiguous problems end-to-end and breaking them down into clear actionable plans.
  • Comfortable engaging senior leaders, influencing decisions, and driving alignment across teams.
  • Thrives in fast-moving, high-pressure environments, bringing resourcefulness, adaptability, and a sense of humor.
  • Highly analytical with strong intuition for important questions, rigorous in investigation, and clear in communication.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, Tableau, Excel, or similar.
  • Genuinely curious about LLM training and deeply cares about the impact of AI on business, research, and society.

Qualifications

  • Founding a tech startup and navigating the zero-to-one and rapid scaling process.
  • A technical background such as a CS degree and/or experience in engineering, product, data science, or AI.
  • Experience with data collection, labeling, or annotation for training LLMs.
  • Embedded with or supporting research teams at a frontier lab, AI company, or research-driven organization.
  • Experience managing large, diverse pools of vendors and external contractors.
  • A background in consulting and experience translating complex requirements into concrete deliverables.

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of data ecosystems and trends.
  • Experience with LLM training and AI ethics.
