Data Foundations Engineering Manager

About the role

You will be the engine that transitions our data infrastructure from a centralized queue into a modern software platform. You will treat our data platform as an internal product, building the backend services, APIs, and CI/CD frameworks that empower external software engineering teams to "Shift Left" and seamlessly self-serve their own data ingestion.

Responsibilities

• Treat our data platform as an internal product, building the backend services, APIs, and CI/CD frameworks that empower external software engineering teams to "Shift Left" and seamlessly self-serve their own data ingestion.
• Lead the technical design of our Pipeline-as-a-Service (PaaS) infrastructure to move away from manual ETL builds toward automated, reusable code frameworks.
• Build elegant Command Line Interfaces (CLIs) and SDKs to minimize onboarding friction.
• Own the vision, roadmap, and developer experience, ensuring the team is aligned and motivated.
• Eliminate architecture bottlenecks and accelerate enterprise data velocity by leading a talented team of software and platform-leaning data engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, or DevOps
• 2+ years of experience leading or managing technical engineering teams
• A strong foundational background in backend software architecture, microservices, and API development (Python, Go, or Java preferred)
• A proven track record of building and managing enterprise-grade CI/CD automation pipelines, introducing automated testing, code validation gates, and Git-driven infrastructure deployment (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Terraform)
• Deep technical familiarity with cloud data infrastructure, with a preference for Snowflake/Snowpark, Kafka, Airflow, or GCS
• Experience overseeing the scaling, compute efficiency, and architecture of core cloud data lake and warehousing environments

Pay

Pay Range: $95,800- $175,000

Schedule

Hybrid roles in Birmingham, AL typically work in-office at least 2 days per week, with core in-office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hybrid roles in Minneapolis, MN typically work in-office at least 1 day per week on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Hybrid roles in San Francisco, CA typically work in-office at least 1 day per week between Monday and Thursday. Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis.
