Data Entry Pharmacy Technician

About the role
This position is responsible for entering and processing prescriptions with speed and accuracy, communicating courteously with customers, and ensuring timely dispensing of medications in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Enter new and refill prescriptions into the pharmacy operating system accurately and promptly to eliminate dispensing errors.
- Triage incoming fax prescriptions to ensure timely dispensing.
- Ensure proper notes in the computer system and correct cycle fill coding.
- Calculate and/or verify correct dosages based on prescriptions.
- Demonstrate caring, understanding, and courtesy when responding to customer calls; route calls appropriately to ensure top-level service.
- Ensure all assigned prescriptions are completed during the regular shift.
- Receive, evaluate, process, and follow up on refill requests from doctors’ offices.
- Develop proficiency in all pharmacy systems (e.g., document imaging, legacy pharmacy computer operating system).
- Assist as needed with filing completed orders, packaging medications, inventory, profiling orders for medical records, and filling processed prescriptions.
- Develop and learn the cycle process to meet delivery deadlines; maintain data entry records for cycle medication, fill requests, and process renewal and new cycle orders.
- Perform other essential functions and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (per state requirements).
- Pharmacy Technician license/certification/registration (per state requirements); National Certification (PTCB) preferred.
- 2+ years of related experience (advanced degree may substitute for experience).
- Advanced computer skills; pharmacy operations system experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and solve problems with minimal direction.
- Great attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment working on multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines.
- Quality-minded; motivated to seek out errors and inquire when something appears inaccurate.
Work Environment
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
