Data Engineer, Mid
About the role
Ever-expanding technology like IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence means that there’s more structured and unstructured data available today than ever before. As a data engineer at Booz Allen, you’ll help build advanced technology solutions and implement data engineering activities on some of the most mission-driven projects in the industry—from fraud detection to cancer research to national intelligence.
You’ll deploy and develop pipelines and platforms that organize and make disparate data meaningful. You’ll work with and guide a multi-disciplinary team of analysts, data engineers, developers, and data consumers in a fast-paced, agile environment. You’ll use your experience in analytical exploration and data examination while managing the assessment, design, building, and maintenance of scalable platforms for your clients.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise software and data systems in secure, air-gapped, or disconnected environments
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data
- Develop data manipulation, automation, and pipeline workflows using Python and SQL
- Utilize distributed data and computing tools such as Spark or Databricks
- Develop RESTful APIs in Python to support data ingestion and integration workflows
- Deploy and configure relational and non-relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Elasticsearch
- Apply knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), secure deployment practices, and data security controls
- Work on site and operate independently in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) environment with limited connectivity
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience deploying, configuring, and maintaining enterprise software and data systems in secure, air-gapped, or disconnected environments
- 3+ years of experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data
- 2+ years of experience in Python and SQL for data manipulation, automation, and pipeline development
- Experience with distributed data and computing tools such as Spark or Databricks
- Experience developing RESTful APIs in Python to support data ingestion and integration workflows
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Elasticsearch
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), secure deployment practices, and data security controls
- Ability to work on site in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) environment with limited connectivity
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building enterprise data engineering solutions in the cloud, including cloud native technologies from AWS and Azure
- Experience supporting classified data systems for the Department of Defense or Intelligence Community
- Experience with cross-domain solutions and data transfer guard technologies
- Experience supporting data lake and data warehouse architectures
- Experience with data modeling, metadata management, and data quality frameworks
- Experience with IAM, encryption, and security controls in cloud or on-prem environments
- Experience with Palantir Foundry or similar enterprise data platforms
- Knowledge of containerization or container orchestration technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Pay
Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $62,000.00 to $141,000.00 (annualized USD).
Schedule
This role may be remote, hybrid, or onsite:
- Remote: Occasional in-person work at a Booz Allen or customer facility may be required.
- Hybrid: Frequent work from a Booz Allen facility, with potential visits to customer facilities as needed.
- Onsite: Work primarily performed at a Booz Allen office or customer facility, with direct collaboration required.
Employees working virtually are generally expected to have their cameras on during meetings to support engagement and effective communication.
