Data Engineer
About the role
As a Data Engineer at Booz Allen, you'll play a crucial role in organizing and making disparate data available and meaningful across various mission-driven projects. You'll work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to design, develop, and deploy end-to-end automated data and ML pipelines within a cloud environment.
Responsibilities
- Implement data engineering activities on complex projects involving structured and unstructured data.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines, focusing on data acquisition, data preparation, and database architecture.
- Write ETL scripts using Java, Python, SQL, or Scala to transform data from various sources.
- Design, build, and manage data storage solutions, including databases like PostgreSQL.
- Deploy and operate data processing systems using AWS services.
- Collaborate with data consumers and other stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Participate in Agile development practices to deliver high-quality data engineering solutions.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with data pipelines, including data acquisition, data prep, and database architecture.
- At least 3 years of experience in ETL development using Java, Python, SQL, or Scala.
- At least 2 years of experience with PostgreSQL or Kafka.
- Experience with AWS services.
- Experience with designing and implementing, containerizing, and deploying end-to-end automated data and ML pipelines within a cloud environment.
- Knowledge of the ML lifecycle and concepts to develop an MLOps ecosystem.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Qualifications
- Experience with Kafka ecosystem tools, such as Kafka Connect and Kafka Streams.
- Experience with NiFi.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Experience working on real-time data and streaming applications.
- Possession of excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Skills
- Strong understanding of data engineering principles and best practices.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Java, Python, SQL, or Scala.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Knowledge of data warehousing and database management systems.
- Experience with data integration and transformation tools.
- Understanding of machine learning and its application in data engineering.

Pay
The projected compensation range for this position is $77,600.00 to $176,000.00 (annualized USD).
Schedule
This position offers a flexible schedule, with options for remote, hybrid, or onsite work depending on the role and customer requirements.
