Data Development Consultant

About the role

The Data Development Consultant will act as a key resource of the Data Operations and Engineering team, supporting Marketing Services products like MTA and MMM. Responsibilities include day‑to‑day support such as fixing code issues within the big data pipeline and backend, analyzing data‑related issues, and undertaking development tasks for the data pipeline. The role partners with stakeholders across Solution Architecture, Consulting Services, Product, and Engineering teams, and reports to the Director of Data Development. This is a hybrid position requiring regular virtual work and in‑person presence at an assigned TransUnion office for a minimum of two days per week.

Responsibilities

• Manages day‑to‑day activities and works on assigned tasks to facilitate and contribute to the successful completion and delivery of team projects and initiatives.
• Plays a key role in end‑to‑end data onboarding and in creating a data pipeline for the end application.
• Performs in‑depth analysis of source data to provide insights for data mapping and business rules setup.
• Develops, codes, and implements the data pipeline.
• Ensures successful data onboarding at an individual client level.
• Works cross‑functionally with Product Managers, Solution Architect, Data Modeler, and Consultancy Services to align and achieve team goals.
• Develops deep knowledge of in‑house tools and applications to suggest improvements and assist Advisory Services and Solution Architects.
• Determines how best to accomplish objectives established at a higher level, working under limited supervision and exercising independent judgment to solve problems.

Required Knowledge And Experiences

• Excellent SQL skills and in‑depth understanding of relational databases.
• Experience on distributed systems frameworks like Hadoop, including hands‑on experience with HDFS, MapReduce, Google Cloud Platform, etc.
• Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of related IT experience in Big Data.
• Good knowledge of UNIX environments and exposure to shell scripting.
• Working knowledge of large‑scale multi‑node clusters with technologies such as HDFS/Big Query, Hive, etc.
• Knowledge of database design principles like OLAP, OLTP, and ETL.
• Experience in Python and Java will be an advantage.

Pay

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $72,300.00 – $105,000.00 annually. Actual compensation considers education, training, work experience, job‑related skill set, location, industry knowledge, scope and responsibilities, and market considerations. Regular, full‑time non‑sales positions may be eligible for TransUnion’s annual bonus plan; certain roles may also qualify for long‑term incentives and other payments per company guidance.
