Transdev in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Data Collector to conduct on-board ride checks and collect accurate ridership data to improve customer service. This role is primarily field-based, with over 90% of work performed by riding in-service bus routes.

About the role

The Data Collector evaluates passenger boarding and alighting patterns, assesses bus stop and shelter usage, distributes survey questionnaires, and performs weekly checks to determine fare payment methods. This role supports the City of Phoenix in achieving matching funds as required by the FTA.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-board ride checks of passengers boarding and alighting buses by location and time.
  • Provide data to statisticians for report compilation to enhance customer service.
  • Perform stationary checks of bus ridership and schedule adherence at maximum load points, branch points, and other special locations.
  • Evaluate bus stop and shelter usage as needed.
  • Distribute survey questionnaires when required.
  • Perform weekly on-board riding checks to determine fare payment methods or other necessary planning information.
  • Work varied hours, days, and shifts, which may change frequently.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED; Technical Degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn specialty transit-related software programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with little to no direct supervision.
  • Capability to quickly understand routes, schedules, fare structures, company policies, operator and supervisor manuals, and labor agreements.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of two-way radio systems.
  • Knowledge of the Metropolitan Phoenix area is a plus.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn bus operating systems is a plus.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, including shifts.
  • Subject to DOT drug testing and physical, if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 prohibits the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work flexible schedules as needed.
  • Ability to sit for long periods under extreme weather conditions.
  • Over 90% of work is performed by riding in-service bus routes.

Pay

Competitive starting pay rate of $18.00 – $19.00 per hour.
