Data Center Technician - Inside Plant (ISP)

About the role

The Network Technician-Data Center supports the installation of infrastructure, including racks, cabinets, grounding, fiber guide, Unistrut, ladder rack, and structured cabling. This role involves maintaining control of inside plant activities, reading and understanding diagrams/drawings, and keeping accurate field notes. Fieldwork may require overtime, weekends, holidays, and off-hours, with potential travel based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform data center cage and overhead ladder rack installation in accordance with industry standards.
• Read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications; maintain project scope and adhere to safety procedures.
• Prepare engineering field notes and interpret engineering drawings, maps, and field conditions; recommend changes as needed.
• Understand and adhere to customer timelines and budget-minded behaviors to ensure project profitability.
• Source high-quality Project Managers and Technicians using personal network of contacts.
• Serve as a corporate liaison to champion cultural initiatives, foster a positive work environment, and drive operational efficiency.
• Coordinate and communicate activities with employees, departments, and management as a team player.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic tools, construction practices, and communication networks.
• Familiarity with basket tray, overhead conveyance, blueprints, and drawings.
• Understanding of cable installation practices, including dressing cables, lacing, and fiber optic cable types.
• Knowledge of AC/DC power plants, manufacturer specifications for racks/cabinets, and cable testing procedures.
• Awareness of inside plant safety measures and data center security processes.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft applications.
• Ability to multitask, stay organized under pressure, and make sound decisions based on provided information.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in Electronics, Telecommunications, Construction, or Project Management.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Lift up to 75 lbs.
• Work in all weather conditions.

Pay

$22 - $35 an hour
