Data Center Technician III
About the role
The Data Center Technician III role is a 24x7x365, market-based position responsible for providing physical and technical support to Flexential customers and resources. A strong understanding of facilities infrastructure, Windows operating systems, PC troubleshooting and management applications is expected in this role. A Data Center Technician III must be able to demonstrate the ability to represent Flexential, both professionally and technically, during interactions with customers and internal resources in a calm and professional manner.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and mentor DCT I and II team members by training on Technical Operations best practices, auditing procedures, ticket analysis, communication standards, and provisioning workflows.
- Serve as a trusted peer resource, providing guidance across operational tasks, documentation, and escalation paths.
- Own project-level responsibilities, including resource allocation, task delegation, and deadline setting for provisioning and maintenance efforts.
- Participate in hiring and onboarding, offering feedback during interviews and documenting candidate evaluations.
- Train peers on reporting and monitoring, including customer-specific reports, badge/access group audits, and facilities documentation (Power, OpsDB, ServiceNow, Access Logs, Security Desk).
- Take ownership of access control systems, troubleshooting badge issues, ensuring compliance, and maintaining monitoring protocols.
- Lead site safety efforts, training others on walkthrough procedures and emergency readiness, including Go-Team coordination.
- Demonstrate advanced alert response capabilities, articulating observed conditions, answering complex questions from DCM/CIE, and providing possible solutions for remediation.
- Understand and interpret critical infrastructure systems, including one-line diagrams, fire suppression, and cooling systems; confidently communicate impact and response procedures.
- Validate and translate complex instructions for Remote Hands tasks, ensuring alignment with customer environments and resolving discrepancies.
- Perform maintenance and PRJTASK requests independently, with full ownership of execution and quality.
- Model professionalism and operational excellence, consistently reinforcing standards and supporting team development.
- Demonstrate reliability and flexibility in supporting 24x7x365 operations, including working varied shifts as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to a high-performing, collaborative, and resilient data center environment.
Required qualifications
- Experience in a 24/7 production environment
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Proficient understanding of Windows and Microsoft operating systems
- Knowledge of networking like Routing, Subnets, and Communication protocols
- Technical aptitude and experience with building management systems, including UPS, generators, HVAC, PDUs, and a working understanding of AC and DC power
- Knowledge of data center operations
- Strong attention to detail, making and keeping commitments, and meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with cable standards, such as 568A and B pin-outs
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Proficient understanding of internal platforms and standard backup job troubleshooting
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience working within an IT or Data Center Support environment
Preferred qualifications
- 4 years of experience working within an IT or Data Center Support environment
- Network+, Security+ or pursuing similar certification
Physical requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and work aloft
- Ability to work in hot and cold temperature environments
- Ability to maneuver pallet jacks
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to pull and install cabling
- Limited travel may be required
Pay
Hourly salary range offered for this position is estimated to be $27.00 - $29.00. However, the actual pay range depends on each candidate's experience, location, and qualifications. Variable pay: discretionary bonus, based on personal and company performance.
