AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. NOTE: PDX is an AWS GovCloud region. As required by our contracts with the federal government, effective February 24, 2026, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. (GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States). A lump sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.

About the role

As a Data Center Technician, you will maintain the operational heartbeat of AWS’s global cloud infrastructure. You’ll work in a 24/7 environment, collaborating with a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, and operations managers to deliver high standards of safety, security, and capacity at the lowest possible cost. This role requires travel within and outside the regional work area, including temporary assignments at alternative sites during training or until your designated facility becomes fully operational.

Responsibilities

  • Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on various components, and troubleshoot network issues.
  • Respond to operational incidents that impact service availability, escalating to senior technicians and management as needed.
  • Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis.
  • Help train and onboard new team members.
  • Take ownership of technical issues, engage cross-functional teams for resolution, and maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed (travel frequency varies based on business needs).
  • Must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites.
  • Reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license required for regional travel (company transportation not provided).

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds.
  • Work in cramped and/or elevated locations, including bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Stand and walk for up to 8+ hours a day.
  • Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
  • Work in a noisy environment.
  • Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Networking Engineering).
  • Knowledge of network design, protocols, and Layer 1/2 troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
  • Experience working in a data center environment.

Pay

$27.98 - $48.99 USD hourly (varies by location and experience).
