Data Center Technician, Human Resources

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. NOTE: PDX is an AWS GovCloud region. As required by our contracts with the federal government, effective February 24, 2026, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. (GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States). A lump sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.
About the role
As a Data Center Technician, you will perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on various components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability. You’ll serve as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors. You will also perform on-call duties, participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities, contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives, and help train and onboard new team members.
This role supports data centers in various operational stages and may require travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational. You will work in an environment that operates 24/7, including shifts longer than 8 hours to support operations (covering both night and day shifts). Traveling within and outside of the regional work area is required, and you must have a reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Perform server rack installations and hardware break-fix on various components
- Troubleshoot network issues and respond to operational incidents impacting service availability
- Escalate issues to senior technicians and management as needed
- Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders (engineers, software developers, vendors, contractors)
- Perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities
- Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis
- Train and onboard new team members
- Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Travel within and outside the regional work area as required
Requirements
- Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed
- Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training or until assigned facility is operational
- Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility
- Must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required
- Reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds
- Work in cramped and/or elevated locations
- Bend, lift, stretch, and reach frequently
- Stand and walk for up to 8+ hours a day
- Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation
- Work in a noisy environment
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- High school or equivalent diploma
- 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience
- Ability to work on a flexible schedule including days, nights, and/or weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Networking Engineering)
- Knowledge of network design, protocols, and Layer 1/2 troubleshooting
- Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system
- Experience working in a Data Center environment
