Data Center Technician

About the Role

The Communications Technician II will install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 and CAT 5 jacks, mounting face plates, and surface mount boxes. They will build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for racks, equipment, and cable. The role involves completing all IDC connections, such as terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels, and performing testing on horizontal and riser cables using tools like volt-ohmmeters and tone sets to troubleshoot issues. The technician will identify active voice or data circuits, coordinate personnel and timelines to complete projects, and assume responsibility for crew performance and training.

This position requires completing all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers. The Communications Technician II must adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

• Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and walls, including terminating CAT 3 and CAT 5 jacks and mounting face plates and surface mount boxes.
• Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for racks, equipment, and cable.
• Complete all IDC connections, including terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
• Perform testing on horizontal and riser cables, including continuity tests, use of volt-ohmmeters, and troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs.
• Use tone sets to identify and test active voice or data circuits.
• Assume responsibility for crew performance, providing necessary training and coordinating personnel and timelines to complete projects.
• Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers.
• Adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
• Perform other assigned responsibilities as needed.

• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and moving up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
• Willingness to travel within the branch or regional territory as needed.
• Regular attendance is mandatory.

Qualifications

This is an entry-level position.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00 per hour.
