Data Center Technician

About the role

This role utilizes advanced skills to perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs in a Data Center operation. Oversight of electrical and mechanical systems, including but not limited to: Universal Power Supply (UPS) systems, generators, chillers, Electrical Distribution, HVAC systems, Building Management Systems (BMS) systems, and CMMS Work Dispatching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily site inspections of all Mechanical & Engineering (M&E) systems and technical equipment, including servicing and maintenance.
  • Under close supervision, complete assigned work according to established processes and procedures in accordance with Environment, Health and Safety Policy — ensuring all safety processes and PPE requirements are followed.
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements and quality standards are met.
  • Oversee third-party vendors, ensuring compliance with developed processes, procedures, and all applicable laws/regulations.
  • Accompany vendors on site visits on an as-needed basis and ensure site standards are met.
  • Create and develop work processes, Job Hazard Analysis reports, and SOPs for critical work with risk assessment.
  • Ensure that CERM documents and logbooks are updated.
  • Complete all required training in order to ensure successful completion of all job-related responsibilities.
  • Taking data that has already been compiled and putting it into one consolidated form.
  • Rounds and reads inspections.
  • Preventative Maintenance.
  • Escorting third-party vendors.
  • Work Order management.
  • May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers.
  • May coordinate work and assign tasks.

  • Prior Data Center experience — specifically on the Mechanical/Electrical Operations side

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor
  • Ability to effectively present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees
  • Requires basic knowledge of financial terms and principles
  • Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages
  • Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations
  • Requires basic analytical skills
  • Experience in a financial setting working with billing and payables; prior experience using a financial system; and the ability to use Microsoft Excel
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to share knowledge with fellow technicians
  • Multi-skilled in HVAC is a plus
  • Certified Electrician or HVAC technician preferred
  • Strong background in either HVAC or Electrical preferred

Required Experience

  • 4–5 years of experience required
  • 2–4 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred

Education Requirements

  • Completed Trade School Program required
  • High School Diploma/GED required

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to share knowledge with fellow technicians
  • Multi-skilled in HVAC is a plus
  • Certified Electrician or HVAC technician preferred
  • Strong background in either HVAC or Electrical preferred

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Background check: CBRE Safety Specific with Drug Screen required
  • Overtime required as applicable based on scheduled work
  • On-site role in a Data Center environment requiring physical presence
  • PPE requirements must be followed per Environment, Health and Safety Policy

Important Notes

  • Interview process: Phone screen followed by an on-site interview that will include a site tour.
  • All initial training will be conducted Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM for the first two weeks. Candidates must be available for this initial training period.
  • This position has potential to convert to a full-time permanent role.
