Data Center Structural Engineer
About the role
The Data Center Design Team at Fluidstack is seeking a Structural Engineer to support the design, development, and execution of 50GW+ of data centers. This role involves leading the design of next-generation liquid cooling and electrical distribution systems, developing and scaling first-of-a-kind modular data centers, and influencing behind-the-meter designs and planning for multi-GW campuses.
Responsibilities
- Support the structural engineering workstream across a multi-site development portfolio from site screening through design, permitting, and construction completion.
- Drive structural due diligence for greenfield and conversion sites, including foundation conditions, existing-structure assessments, and geotechnical constraints.
- Review geotechnical reports and assign structural design actions based on soil bearing capacities, settlement risk, and seismic classification.
- Develop and maintain the structural basis of design, standard details, and specs, coordinating with civil, geotech, and MEP teams.
- Manage external structural engineers of record through design milestones, reviewing deliverables for quality using IFC.
- Identify structural cost risks during site selection, including retrofit complexity on conversions.
Requirements
- You have worked structurally on large-scale buildings or infrastructure, preferably on the owner/developer side, and seek deep data center exposure.
- You read and translate geotechnical reports into structural design actions.
- You coordinate with civil, geotech, and MEP teams and manage external engineers of record through IFC.
- You have knowledge of foundations, structural steel, and building envelope systems for large-format buildings.
- You identify structural cost and constructability risks early, not after the site is locked.
Bonus
- A PE license or active pursuit.
- Experience with ETABS, RISA, or RAM.
- Seismic design expertise.
- Conversion and retrofit experience.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for candidates who have worked structurally on large-scale buildings or infrastructure, preferably on the owner/developer side, and seek deep data center exposure. You should be able to read and translate geotechnical reports into structural design actions, coordinate with civil, geotech, and MEP teams, and manage external engineers of record through IFC. Knowledge of foundations, structural steel, and building envelope systems for large-format buildings is also required. Bonus points for a PE license, experience with ETABS, RISA, or RAM, seismic design expertise, and conversion and retrofit experience.
