About the role
The Data Center Specialist will be based in Lynnwood, WA, reporting to the Data Center Manager and providing hands-on operational support for both the Lynnwood and Kent data center facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform rack-and-stack installation of server, network, and storage equipment.
- Manage structured cabling (fiber and copper), ensuring proper labeling, routing, and documentation.
- Monitor data center infrastructure and respond to hardware, network, and environmental incidents via the incident tracking system.
- Support patching, firmware upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance activities for infrastructure components.
- Adhere to data center security, safety, and access control procedures at all times.
- Maintain accurate documentation of asset inventory, cabling layouts, rack elevations, and operating procedures.
- Proactively monitor systems for availability, performance, capacity, and environmental conditions.
- Assist in defining and supporting monitoring, alerting, and escalation processes to meet service availability targets.
- Participate in IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery testing and execution activities.
- Support infrastructure deployments, upgrades, migrations, decommissioning, and site improvement projects.
- Collaborate with network, compute, and storage teams to support Hybrid Cloud-related infrastructure requirements.
- Aid in system or infrastructure enhancements that improve reliability, performance, or operational efficiency.
- Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for day-to-day data center and infrastructure operations.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Assist with procurement logistics, asset onboarding, and vendor-supported activities.
- Participate in change management activities, ensuring changes are documented, tracked, and executed according to established processes.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure timely issue resolution and clear status updates.
- Use monitoring and reporting tools to track infrastructure health, power usage, cooling efficiency, and fault trends.
- Generate and maintain documentation required for audit readiness, compliance, and internal reviews.
- Ensure enterprise data and infrastructure are handled in accordance with security, privacy, industry best practices, and regulatory standards.
- Provide after-hours and on-call support for urgent incidents and planned maintenance activities.
- Travel independently between Lynnwood and Kent data center locations as required (personal vehicle required).
Requirements
- 4 to 7 years of hands-on experience supporting data center operations.
- Strong experience with server, storage, and/or network hardware installation and troubleshooting.
- Solid knowledge of fiber and copper cabling standards and best practices.
- Familiarity with infrastructure and environmental monitoring tools.
- Ability to work independently, follow operational procedures, and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
Preferred
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience.
- Experience in corporate or multinational data center environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL principles and data center industry standards.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS, Azure, Cisco, CompTIA Server+, Network+, or similar).
- Exposure to automation, scripting, or infrastructure management tools.
