About the role

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

  • Learn more about benefits at Google.
  • Act as a data center technical lead, monitoring plant efficiency (e.g., Power Usage Effectiveness/Water Usage Effectiveness - PUE/WUE), and working with technicians, leads, and managers.
  • Provide an approach to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), operations, and maintenance programs.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for Facilities Technicians (FTs) to drive improvements and feedback.
  • Navigate organizational change processes and provide site-level feedback, ensuring appropriate SMEs are included, coordinating with FTs and managers to execute approved decisions, and properly close out technical bugs.
  • Provide input and direction in the data center commissioning processes and procedures, including retesting requirements following replacement or major repairs.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in Electrical, Mechanical/HVAC, or Controls/Automation experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment.
  • Ability to use OSHA standard safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10 years of experience in facilities within a critical environment.
  • Operations experience in mission critical environments (e.g., data center, power generation, refinery, semiconductor fabrication, chemical processing, or other high consequence environments).
  • Experience collaborating with other business units to meet company goals and standards.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and control systems in a data center environment.
  • Effective people management and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Skills

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $122000 - $173000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
