Data Center Mechanical Technical Program Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a Data Center Mechanical Technical Program Manager to oversee the design of post-facility-ready mechanical system upgrades and retrofits. This includes building design teams from internal stakeholders and external partners/providers, facilitating the creation of a shared execution plan, and overseeing design services provided by an external design team in support of construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of mission-critical design and construction, as well as new product development and insertion.
Responsibilities
- Proactively identify stakeholders and work with them to strategize, plan, and prioritize objectives and success criteria.
- Estimate task durations and ensure schedules and dependencies align with organizational objectives.
- Effectively monitor and communicate progress and risks, proposing mitigation plans and aligning stakeholders on de-risking strategies.
- Measure and publish program and process metrics to drive consensus and decision-making.
- Seek out and apply relevant best practices from other processes and technologies.
- Organize ambiguous projects into clear longer-term (6+ months) objectives.
- Build effective program teams within and across an organization, addressing their needs throughout their life cycles.
- Guide alignment on timelines, goals, and deliverables of related projects and teams.
- Manage escalations and unblock obstacles.
- Break down programs and processes into components executable by less senior team members.
- Independently design and deliver optimized program communication plans, including executive and key partner communications.
- Articulately represent the program across touchpoints.
- Determine program phasing and metrics for continuous improvement, including resource stewardship.
- Optimize regular checkpoints and metrics dashboards.
- Ensure stakeholders are aligned on rationale for program pivots.
- Independently determine and collect data required to govern programs and drive stakeholder decision-making.
- Maintain project trackers and status reports.
- Identify and execute program tasks while incorporating product excellence, inclusion, and brand trust.
- Define program governance structure, including management of mitigations, postmortems, and escalation reports.
- Lead effective program stakeholder meetings.
- Independently develop change management rollout plans, including impact analysis.
- Define, lead, and own program charters addressing scope, timeline, OKRs, resourcing, and risks/dependencies.
- Translate ambiguous program goals into clear and measurable objectives/milestones.
- Create project plans breaking down projects into discrete phases aligned with stakeholder needs, including risks/dependencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred: Master's Degree and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- Industrial or commercial HVAC experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in evaporative and air-based process chilled water cooling systems.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and related technical areas.
- Knowledge of industry construction methods and techniques.
- Familiarity with mechanical cooling systems.
- Experience in construction or operations of large commercial buildings, data centers, semiconductor facilities, or industrial processes.
- Advanced planning and communication management skills, applicable in difficult situations.
- Proficiency in continuous improvement, execution, organizational change, and stakeholder management with minimal guidance.
Pay
The minimum salary for this position is $165,000 annually, and the maximum salary is $195,000 annually. The compensation offered will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on Turner & Townsend’s applicable benefit program.
