Data Center Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a self-motivated data center mechanical engineering expert to serve our Americas regional projects. The Global Data Center Engineering team enables business growth by delivering new data center capacities with continuous operational stability. Our geographically distributed team collaborates with project teams to select, contract, design, and build new sites.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and review data center site selection, contractual evaluations, design solutions, and support project execution from construction to final site acceptance.
- Review Data Center MEP Design and other disciplines for new builds and data hall fit-outs; create data hall layout plans and perform test fits to validate server capacity and failover calculations.
- Engage in Testing and Commissioning discussions to determine required tests for verifying design elements.
- Support the DC Engineering FM team as a Subject Matter Expert to address design limitations and risks.
- Conduct periodic audits or assessments to evaluate the effectiveness and practicality of in-use data center designs.
- Act as an ambassador to explain data center infrastructure design to visitors and collaborate on enhancing MEP design for future business needs.
- Travel internationally up to 6 times per year (e.g., China, Americas, South Asia). Candidates must hold a valid passport and be able to obtain necessary visas.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
- Knowledge of power and cooling designs and capacity requirement calculations.
- Understanding of Power and Cooling Redundancy (e.g., 2N, N+1 Distributed Redundant) and standards like TIA-942 and ASHRAE.
- Experience with Cooling Redundancy and Concurrent Maintainability (e.g., N+1 or N+2).
- Experience leading or influencing Engineering Design and Architect teams through the Data Center Conceptual to Detailed Design Process (30% > 60% > 90%).
- Familiarity with Data Center Tiering Standards (e.g., TIA-942 Rated 3, Uptime Tier 3).
- Experience leading or influencing construction teams for Data Hall fit-outs, including IT services coordination and Power/Cooling planning.
- Experience leading or influencing Testing and Commissioning teams for L1 to L5 commissioning tests to validate system design intent.
- Mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience with systems such as generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, UPS, and electrical sub-distribution.
- Experience with liquid cooling for IT systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to clarity and detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with data center mechanical system engineering designs, building industrial standards, codes, CFD modeling, PUE calculations, systems commissioning, and systems availability analysis.
- Experience in heat transfer and emergency power generation.
- 4+ years of experience in data center engineering.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $159,000 - $272,000 annually, depending on qualifications, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.
