About the Role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles, collaborating with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking Data Center Engineering Operations (DCEO) intern technicians between July 2026 – January 2027. Interns will participate in our 6-month work and training internship at our Northern Virginia facilities. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. This program accommodates concurrent academic studies at Northern Virginia Community College. Amazon cannot provide sponsorship now or in the future for these positions; eligible candidates must have work authorization without employer intervention to be considered. If applying for positions in Oregon (OR) and Ohio (OH), these sites are within the AWS GovCloud region; effective May 15, 2017, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region is restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens (GovCloud may not be accessed from outside of the United States).

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment across data center infrastructure
  • Support root cause analysis for equipment performance and potential failures
  • Participate in troubleshooting facility and rack-level operational events
  • Record and analyze daily operational readings and metrics
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support infrastructure engineering initiatives

A Day in the Life

Your internship will be an immersive journey into the world of data center technology. You'll work alongside experienced professionals, participating in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting facility events, and supporting infrastructure operations. Each day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, from monitoring operational metrics to assisting with rack installations and facility management.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with computers and Microsoft Office products (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Currently enrolled in a Data Center Operations Certificate or Associate Degree program at Northern Virginia Community College with an expected graduation date of Spring 2027

Preferred Qualifications

  • STEM classes or vocational course curriculum education
  • Classes or experience with electrical or mechanical fundamentals including HVAC, electrical, etc.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds
  • Ability to work in an environment that operates 24/7 with an ability to participate in primary responder rotation and provide after-hours support as needed
  • Working in cramped and/or elevated and/or noisy environments
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, reaching, standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation

Schedule

  • Full-time (40 hours/week), Monday–Friday day shift
  • 6-month program duration (July 2026 – January 2027)
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments
  • Successful completion may lead to full-time employment
  • On-site presence required at one of our Northern Virginia Data Center locations
  • You will be required to work shift work that may include days/nights/weekends/holidays
  • Traveling within the regional work area is required; you will be responsible for having a reliable personal vehicle and a valid driver's license to travel within the regional work area, as company transportation will not be provided
