Data Center Engineering Operations Technician III, CMH 93

About the role

You would work with teams of front-line responders who support the operations of some of the world’s most powerful data centers. As part of the Data Center Engineering Operations team, you will maintain and operate critical infrastructure systems to ensure they are prepared to stand up against any situation. AWS has the world’s largest cloud computing portfolio, and as an Engineering Operations Technician (EOT), you will work in some of the most sophisticated, safe, and secure data centers globally, collaborating with bright minds to test and implement new technology and work practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment to ensure 24/7 reliability and availability.
• Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).
• Assist in troubleshooting facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
• Perform rack installs and rack decommissioning within internal SLA.
• Conduct preventative maintenance (PM), troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Support technical writing for the change management program.
• Monitor daily work requests, manage to resolution, and execute projects from conception to completion.
• Provide on-site support for contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring all work aligns with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.
• Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center equipment, including stand-by diesel generators, 3-phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, wet cell batteries), mechanical systems (CRAHU units, chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, motors), fire/life safety equipment, and building automation systems.

Physical Requirements

• Willingness and ability to work in physically demanding conditions with reasonable accommodations.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.
• Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.
• Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb stairs, twist, bend, work above shoulders, grasp, carry, push, and pull objects into position.
• Work in an environment requiring provided ear protection.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
• 1+ years of experience in electrical facilities maintenance or 1+ years of experience in mechanical facilities maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings.
• Associate’s degree in a related field or a technical degree in a related field.
• 2+ years of data center engineering experience.

Pay

Starting pay for this position ranges from $32.88 to $57.50 USD hourly, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

Schedule

• Work schedule varies by site needs, with shifts up to 12 hours that may rotate on a predefined schedule.
• Some locations require on-call rotations.
• Role may support more than one location/site.
