About the role

As a Data Center Engineer, you will run the day-to-day operations of the data center, assist team members with new builds in remote sites, and collaborate with different departments to deploy new environments. This on-site role involves receiving new equipment, planning rack layouts, infrastructure cabling, and maintaining a clean and organized data center.

Responsibilities

  • Hardware installation and decommission of enterprise servers and cabling infrastructure.
  • Solve issues and repair data center hardware and networking infrastructure.
  • Rack and stack data center equipment, including servers, networking devices, monitoring systems, and other equipment.
  • Rack installation: placing racks, cabling, powering up, and handing off servers to internal provisioning teams.
  • Monitor DC environments using monitoring tools and respond in a ticketing environment used by multiple internal teams.
  • Document activities and create/modify Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Manage the decommission lifecycle of data center hardware.
  • Inventory process: order replacement parts and return failed parts as required.
  • Structured cabling, labeling, and resolving faults in fiber/copper/telecom cables.
  • Install and repair system power supplies and cabling; identify and fix problems.
  • Complete small projects independently and collaborate with your manager on larger local projects.
  • Show professionalism in daily data center activities.
  • Receive and ship data center equipment as needed.
  • Install, remove, and fix hardware in data center racks without disturbing other hardware or critical infrastructure.
  • Maintain asset inventory and update internal applications.
  • Be accessible via cell phone and willing to work on-site as needed.
  • Participate in training to bridge skill gaps and learn new relevant technologies.
  • Act within Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for assigned tickets.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of data center experience.
  • Knowledge of Dell PowerEdge Servers and Dell iDRAC.
  • Understanding of data center power types and standards.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Knowledge of server/storage/network hardware.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and process-driven.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Interest in learning new data center concepts.
  • Dependability and trustworthiness.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Linux OS experience.
  • RACADM CLI experience.
  • Dell OpenManage Enterprise experience.
  • Troubleshooting experience with servers, networking devices, and IT equipment.
  • Inventory management experience: ordering, receiving, and shipping server parts.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on business needs and urgency.
  • Experience taking on-call shifts and responding to critical events.
  • Experience escalating issues to senior staff and management as needed.

Pay

Annual salary range: $63,600 – $118,000.

Schedule
