Data Center Critical Environment Technician Manager

As a CO+I Critical Environment Technician Manager, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities

People Management

• Model Microsoft’s culture, values, and leadership principles.

Equipment and Systems Operations

• Serve as an operations specialist in one or more major areas (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and work on advanced tasks independently.
• Oversee and coach the team with inspections of critical environment-related facility equipment (e.g., controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), building, and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions; analyze trends.
• Monitor performance of maintenance and operations using telemetry, control systems, and other platforms; identify all alarms.
• Utilize the internal computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track equipment assets, complete work order requests, and generate reports.
• Safely and quickly respond to and lead an onsite incident response team for abnormal conditions; coordinate corrective repairs with other critical facilities professionals.
• Enhance, develop, or follow emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to incidents.
• Gather information to create incident timelines, root-cause analyses, and action items following abnormal conditions.

Equipment and Systems Maintenance

• Guide, oversee, and perform various types of maintenance (e.g., planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs following MOPs and SOPs for one or more disciplines and equipment types (e.g., electrical, mechanical, cooling systems).
• Serve as a subject matter expert for one type of equipment; oversee everyday tasks and troubleshooting within your area of expertise.
• Have a hands-on understanding of how equipment works within trained disciplines and troubleshoot systems, subsystems, and components independently.
• Provide and/or assign team members to escort third-party contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and service providers onsite for all severity-leveled procedures.
• Coordinate and schedule supplier/vendor on-site activities; recognize and address potential concerns by stopping supplier work when necessary.
• Ensure third-party work is started and completed safely, following standard practices, procedures, and applicable legislation.
• Advise junior colleagues on inspection and supervision issues; provide consultation on troubleshooting systems and problems.

Critical Environment Culture

• Understand, follow, ensure, and coach the team on safety and security requirements (e.g., job hazard assessments, toolbox talks) and business processes.
• Proactively ensure safety and security requirements are met for yourself and others.
• Maintain safe working conditions and escalate unsafe conditions immediately.
• Assess and identify resources and equipment necessary to support environmental health and safety (EH&S) objectives.
• Participate in required meetings, trainings, and handoffs.

Requirements

Ability to work shifts, including non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of mission-critical services work or applied learning experience (e.g., high-availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields) or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 6+ years of mission-critical services experience.
• Associate's Degree or technical trade certification (e.g., military, trade school) or higher-equivalent education and 5+ years of mission-critical services experience.
• 1+ year(s) of people management experience.
• 1+ year(s) of experience in a specialized area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) or related field.

Background Check Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Pay

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $75,400 - $167,900 per year. For specific work locations within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is USD $105,800 - $185,300 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
