About the role

EY is seeking a motivated professional with solid experience in the utilities sector to serve as a Senior Manager in Data Architecture. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in Data Architecture, Data Modernization, end-to-end Data capabilities, AI, Gen AI, and Agentic AI, preferably with a power systems/electrical engineering background and experience delivering business use cases in Transmission, Distribution, Generation, or Customer domains.

This role is dedicated to the utilities sector, where you will craft, deploy, and maintain large-scale AI-ready data architectures. You will help clients enable better business outcomes while working in the rapidly growing Power & Utilities sector, leading transformative technology projects and programs that align with organizational strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of one or more processes, solutions, and projects with a focus on quality and effective risk management.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and identify innovative solutions through research, analysis, and best practices.
  • Manage and supervise team members to deliver complex technical initiatives, applying expertise to guide others and interpret internal/external issues.
  • Design, architect, and present data solutions, leading junior team members and working with clients to sell and deliver technology consulting services.
  • Act as a trusted advisor with a broad understanding of digital transformation, analytic technology, and industry trends.
  • Engage with senior business leaders to understand and shape their goals, information needs, and analytic requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Scientists, Business Analysts, IT teams) to define data requirements and implement data strategies.
  • Organize and lead workshops to capture requirements, brainstorm solutions, and align on data architecture strategies.
  • Design and implement modern data architectures supporting transactional, operational, analytical, and AI solutions.
  • Direct and mentor global data architecture and engineering teams, fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Establish data governance policies, including data security, quality, and lifecycle management.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements to enhance capabilities.
  • Help win new business for EY by building client relationships and demonstrating expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (required).
  • 12+ years of professional consulting experience in industry or technology consulting.
  • 12+ years of hands-on experience in architecting, designing, delivering, or optimizing data lake solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience with native cloud products and services such as Azure or GCP.
  • 8+ years of experience mentoring and leading teams of data architects and engineers.
  • In-depth knowledge of data architecture principles, including data modeling, warehousing, lakes, and integration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large data engineering teams to design and build complex platforms.
  • Hands-on experience designing end-to-end architectures and pipelines for efficient data collection, processing, and delivery.
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques and architectural design patterns (e.g., Data Fabrics, Data Mesh, Lake Houses, Delta Lakes).
  • Experience managing complex data analysis, migration, and integration of enterprise solutions.
  • Hands-on coding skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Ability to design scalable data solutions with optimized performance.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and DevOps practices for automating workflows (DataOps).
  • Practical understanding of data encryption, access control, and security best practices.
  • Experience leading Infrastructure and Security engineers in platform builds.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Machine Learning (preferred).
  • Experience working at a Big 4 firm or a major utility (preferred).
  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Databricks (preferred).
  • Experience leading and influencing teams with a focus on mentorship and professional development.
  • Passion for innovation and strategic application of emerging technologies.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment valuing diverse perspectives.

Pay

The base salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $144,000 to $329,100. The range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento) is $172,800 to $374,000. Individual salaries are determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.

Schedule

This role follows a team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Most people in external, client-serving roles are expected to work in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project, or year.
