About the role

EY is seeking a motivated professional with solid experience in the utilities sector to serve as a Senior Manager in Data Architecture. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in Data Modernization, end-to-end Data capabilities, AI, Gen AI, and Agentic AI, preferably with a power systems or electrical engineering background and experience delivering business use cases in Transmission, Distribution, Generation, or Customer domains. This role is dedicated to crafting, deploying, and maintaining large-scale AI-ready data architectures for clients in the utilities sector.

You will help clients enable better business outcomes while working in the rapidly growing Power & Utilities sector. This high-visibility role offers opportunities to lead transformative technology projects, solve complex analytical problems, and enable the use of ML and AI at scale. You will manage timelines, costs, and quality while leading both technical and non-technical teams in developing cutting-edge solutions. The role involves direct client engagement, relationship-building, and driving innovation in data architecture and engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and deliver one or more processes, solutions, and projects with a focus on quality and risk management.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and identify innovative solutions through research, analysis, and best practices.
  • Lead and mentor professional employees or team members to deliver complex technical initiatives.
  • Design, architect, and present data solutions, guiding junior team members and collaborating with clients to deliver technology consulting services.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their problems and recommending methodologies and solutions anchored in data architectures and platforms.
  • Win new business for EY by engaging with senior business leaders to shape goals, objectives, and analytic requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Scientists, Business Analysts, IT teams) to define data requirements, design solutions, and implement data strategies.
  • Organize and lead workshops and design sessions to capture requirements, brainstorm solutions, and align on data architecture strategies.
  • Lead the design and implementation of modern data architectures supporting transactional, operational, analytical, and AI solutions.
  • Direct and mentor global data architecture and engineering teams, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish data governance policies, including data security, quality, and lifecycle management.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending improvements to enhance capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (required).
  • 12+ years of professional consulting experience in industry or technology consulting.
  • 12+ years of hands-on experience in architecting, designing, delivering, or optimizing data lake solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience with native cloud products and services such as Azure or GCP.
  • 8+ years of experience mentoring and leading teams of data architects and data engineers.
  • In-depth knowledge of data architecture principles, including data modeling, data warehousing, data lakes, and data integration.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large data engineering teams to design and build platforms with complex architectures.
  • Hands-on experience designing end-to-end architectures and pipelines for efficient and reliable data collection, processing, and delivery.
  • Proficiency in data modeling techniques and architectural design patterns (e.g., Data Fabrics, Data Mesh, Lake Houses, Delta Lakes).
  • Experience managing complex data analysis, migration, and integration of enterprise solutions to modern platforms.
  • Hands-on coding skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Ability to design scalable data solutions with optimized performance.
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps practices (DataOps).
  • Practical understanding of data encryption, access control, and security best practices.
  • Experience leading Infrastructure and Security engineers in platform builds.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or Machine Learning.
  • Experience working at a Big 4 firm or a major utility.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Databricks.
  • Experience leading and influencing teams with a focus on mentorship and professional development.
  • Passion for innovation and applying emerging technologies to solve real-world challenges.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives.

Skills

  • Technical expertise in applications integration, cloud computing architecture, and data architecture design.
  • Experience with AI/Agentic AI-driven data operations and delivering business use cases in utilities (Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Customer).
  • Strong relationship management and business development skills.
  • Ability to engage with senior leaders and establish credibility as a trusted advisor in data strategy and analytic technology.
  • Proficiency in enterprise data management, metadata management, ontology design, and systems design.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and emotional agility for hybrid work environments.

Pay

The base salary range for this job in the US is $144,000 to $329,100. The range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento) is $172,800 to $374,000. Individual salaries are determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.

Schedule

This role follows a team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Most people in external, client-serving roles are expected to work in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project, or year.
