About the Role

The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) of the New York City Police Department oversees critical projects and technological initiatives, maintaining and enhancing the department's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and workstations. ITSD is seeking an IT Security Specialist to serve as a Data Architect, focusing on SQL Server database administration and security management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform SQL Server database administration functions, including maintenance of multiple environments (development, testing, and production), patching, troubleshooting, SSIS & SSRS deployments, and security management.
  • Monitor and analyze data platforms to ensure the database is available, secure, healthy, efficient, and recoverable as per expectations.
  • Implement and manage the physical databases of mission-critical systems, including capacity planning to determine future storage needs.
  • Collaborate with application owners to develop seamless processes for migrating schema and data to the data platform.
  • Partner with development and quality assurance teams to deliver robust, high-quality, and on-time solutions.
  • Build and manage High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architecture, such as Clustering, Replication, and Always On.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to projects and policies required by the position; or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, principles, and practices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016/2017/2019/2022.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, and database backup/recovery.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, security delegation, and storage components.
  • Solid knowledge of SQL Server HADR solutions, Data Replication, SSIS, and SSRS.

New York City residency is not required for this position.
