Data Architect
Entarian is seeking a Data Architect to provide technical expertise for the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Ordnance Information System (OIS), a mission-critical program focused on developing, modernizing, enhancing, operating, and maintaining OIS systems. This role is remote with up to 10% travel required for client meetings in Mechanicsburg, PA, and/or Yorktown, VA.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in coordinating and reviewing business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analyses to align IT solutions with enterprise business initiatives.
- Coordinate with technical leads in the System Architect team on container orchestration, cloud solutions, and services in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Create and maintain high-performance, scalable, and stable data architectures for OIS.
- Lead the organization’s data management, security, and migration initiatives while directing a team of data engineers and database administrators.
- Examine current data management systems and identify opportunities to enhance performance and prepare for growth.
- Assist in developing policies for standardizing systems, development tools, and security practices.
- Design and implement data warehouse and storage strategies.
- Design and implement ETL processes, including data extraction, load, and database synchronization routines.
- Analyze and recommend improvements for existing software regarding database performance, stability, usability, and scalability.
- Define and implement database security, audit, resource allocation policies, and procedures.
- Design and implement database backup, recovery, and high-availability strategies.
- Monitor and optimize database instances using administration tools, SQL scripts, and utilities.
- Provide guidance and support for data encryption at rest and in transit.
- Design, model, document, and guide the logical and conceptual relationship of data and database changes for complex applications.
- Identify requirements, research options, design, and implement solutions for the OIS Next Generation application and database.
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk assessments.
- Research, design, develop, and promote solutions that enhance the modern development environment.
Requirements
- Must have a DOD Top Secret level clearance (fully adjudicated T5 background check) to start; proof of U.S. citizenship required for federal clearance.
- Directive 8570.1/8140 - IAT II certification:
- Baseline Certification: Security+
- Computing Environment Certification: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Data Engineer, Solutions Architect, or equivalent (if not in hand, must be obtained within 3 months of onboarding).
- BA/BS or equivalent experience and 8+ years of prior relevant experience (or master’s with 6+ years), with at least 3 years of concentrated hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or Data Architect within a similar tech stack.
- Expert-level knowledge of all aspects of SQL.
- Extensive experience in container orchestration.
- Extensive experience in database design, development, data modeling, schema design, and database optimization.
- Extensive experience configuring and managing Oracle databases.
- Experience migrating from on-prem data centers to public cloud (AWS, Azure).
- Experience decomposing Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures and triggers to migrate to Amazon Aurora DB, Postgres, or MySQL.
- Experience with ETL/ELT pipeline design for large-scale data warehouse ingestion.
- Familiarity with data retention policies, TTL management, and tiered storage strategies.
- Understanding of data warehouse monitoring, including query performance tracking, storage growth, and resource utilization.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, data partitioning strategies, and query optimization for high-volume analytical workloads.
- Experience designing and managing large-scale analytical data warehouses, preferably using ClickHouse or comparable columnar/OLAP databases (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
- Excellent communication and written skills.
- Must be a self-starter, strong leader, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Desired Qualifications
- 12-15 years of experience in database design and development.
- Familiarity with ClickHouse integrations (Kafka engine, S3-backed storage, or federated queries via external dictionaries/tables).
- Experience operating ClickHouse in a cloud or containerized environment (Kubernetes, ClickHouse Cloud, or Altinity).
- Understanding of ClickHouse's eventual consistency model and how it differs from traditional RDBMS transaction semantics.
- Demonstrated experience in network and cybersecurity design, engineering, and operations with an emphasis on Navy capabilities.
Pay
Salary Range: $150,000 - $180,000
