Dance/Tumbling Instructor II

About the role

Parks and Recreation Community Programs Workers provide customer service, program instruction, education, and guidance to various patrons. The role requires maintaining a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, organizations, and the general public.

The work environment includes indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to wet/humid environments, dust, odors, mist, gases, or other airborne matter, as well as mechanical hazards.

This position works days, evenings, and weekends as required. Placement on the pay scale relates directly to experience with the City of Pocatello.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction of adult and/or youth group fitness and dance classes, including but not limited to:
  • Yoga, step aerobics, pool exercise, strength training, Pilates, Pound, Zumba, Insanity, and other dance formats
  • Basic tumbling/gymnastic classes
• Demonstrates proper techniques and methods for participants
• Observes participants and informs them of corrective measures

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in fitness instruction
• Current CPR certification
• Certification as an instructor and/or trainer in the fitness area taught by a nationally recognized organization (preferred)
• Current license with the corporation for trademark/franchise classes (e.g., Zumba, Pound, Insanity)
• Basic First Aid certification may be required
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Physical Requirements

• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces
• Requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms
• Involves operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance
• Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform essential functions and interact with the public
