Dance Instructor

About the role

The SBDCRC School of Dance at Prince William County, Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking additional dance instructors for the 2026 - 2027 school year. The program is family-friendly and community-oriented, offering high-quality dance instruction for beginners through advanced students. Teacher training begins in August.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginner and intermediate specialty level classes such as beginner/intermediate ballet, tap, jazz, safety, CPR, first aid, mini camps, environmental education, and parent/child classes.
• Maintain and prepare equipment and facility, and maintain related records.
• Enforce program and facility rules; provide emergency care and treatment as required.
• Carry out program plans, activities, and lessons.
• Clean up after program.
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.

Requirements

• One or two years of experience in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, or creative movement.
• Strong ballet technique.
• Versatility in training.
• Ability to teach multiple disciplines.
• Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year instructional experience in related program area.
• Requires complex certification with regular additional training or education for maintenance of certification.

• Basic exercise science principles and theories.
• Recordkeeping principles.
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and standards.
• Use of modern office technology and computers and related software applications.
• Interpretation and application of applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards.
• Utilization of computers and relevant software applications.
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Benefits

Full-time and part-time Prince William County Government employees are eligible to participate in medical plans with corresponding pharmacy and basic vision coverage, as well as dental plans and a separate vision plan. No leave accrual or holiday eligibility applies to this position.
