About the role
We are seeking a Damage Prevention Director to lead or establish and grow a team focused on damage prevention programs within the utility and gas industry. The role involves providing strategic and operational leadership, overseeing multiple levels of staff, ensuring strong performance, collaboration, and delivery excellence across gas line locating activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the scaling of regional, functional, and/or client operations.
- Translate overall growth strategy into specific team goals and annual operational plans.
- Provide senior-level oversight of damage prevention operations, ensuring accurate gas line locating practices and consistent adherence to client requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies.
- Ensure organizational compliance with applicable state one-call laws, client specifications, and excavation safety standards, including tolerance zones and required marking protocols.
- Lead investigations of damage incidents and near-miss events, directing root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions to reduce risk and recurrence.
- Partner with executive leadership to develop, standardize, and continuously improve policies, procedures, tools, and best practices across damage prevention service areas.
- Serve as a senior liaison with clients, contractors, supervisors, project managers, and internal stakeholders to resolve complex issues, strengthen partnerships, and improve overall damage prevention outcomes.
- Oversee program-level reporting, including audit results, quality metrics, corrective actions, and performance trends, providing actionable insights to leadership and clients.
- Maintain an active field presence as needed, conducting site visits to assess work quality, safety conditions, and adherence to established standards.
- Traverse job sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
- Conduct visual assessments of task quality and job site safety.
- Own and lead client relationships and key accounts, ensuring strong partnerships, retention, and growth.
- Develop and execute account strategies to expand services and strengthen client engagement.
- Identify and drive cross-selling opportunities through internal collaboration.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10–15+ years of experience in utility locating, damage prevention, natural gas distribution, or related field, with at least 5 years leading others.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
- Ability to use data and software to drive resource deployment and deliver superior client service.
