Dam Safety Engineer

About the role

Perform technical design work and manage small project teams.
Lead smaller projects involving dams, levees, spillways, intakes and outlets and other structure improvements.
Deliver innovative and high-quality design products, manage equipment procurement, and participate in construction processes.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and work directly with client counterparts to understand key interests for developing technical solutions to their infrastructure challenges, providing ideas and strategies to deliver projects from concept to closeout.
  • Translate client direction into efficient workplans and coordinate with project team members to deliver high-quality work products.
  • Create written technical documents, technical drawings, specifications, cost estimates, alternatives analyses, and other common engineering deliverables.
  • Show familiarity with design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes relevant to the industry.
  • Demonstrate the ability to leverage knowledge of general engineering principles including hydraulics, civil/structural design, geotechnical considerations, and mechanical systems to generate unique, engineered solutions.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of calculations and design documents.
  • Participate in equipment procurement and construction management processes.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers.
  • Provide support to business development teams for pursuit activities with the opportunity to lead projects.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or Business.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory requirements for dams and hydropower clients.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience.

Skills

  • Technical design and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in design software and engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, civil/structural design, and geotechnical considerations.

Schedule

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
