This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and vibrant academic teaching facility associated with a residency program, cytopathology fellowship, and medical school. You will engage in a wide range of procedures, screen both non-gynecologic and fine needle aspiration (FNA) cases, and contribute to educational and research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Screen gynecological and non-gynecological cytologic preparations to determine abnormalities and assist Pathologists with diagnosis.
  • Screen various cytologic preparations with accuracy and competency; identify abnormal, malignant, or other significant physiologic states while exercising judgment based on classification criteria.
  • Sign out negative gynecologic specimen reports and pass yearly Pap Proficiency Testing.
  • Assist in the performance of fine needle aspiration (FNA), including advising clinicians on proper specimen collection, performing rapid staining, and providing specimen adequacy assessment.
  • Obtain patient history and clinical information as necessary; request additional specimen collection for further studies when indicated.
  • Follow departmental procedures for quality assurance and ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Prepare and process certain specimens in the Cytopreparatory lab as needed and remain familiar with Cytopreparatory techniques.
  • Participate in department record-keeping, including work volumes, safety records, continuing education records, and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain equipment, participate in preventive maintenance programs, and alert the Analytical Specialist of any equipment problems.
  • Assist in proper handling and storage of supplies; notify the Analytical Specialist when inventory is low.
  • Assist in the evaluation and validation of new instruments and technologies under the supervision of the Analytical Specialist and Doctoral Director.
  • Complete assigned initial and subsequent competency assessment examinations and maintain working knowledge of applicable Laboratory Information System programs.
  • Participate in the training and orientation of new employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required).
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (Preferred).
  • Certified ASCP Cytotechnologist credential from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Pay

Sign-on bonus of $12,500 for qualified candidates or participation in the Anatomic Pathology Scholars Program for new graduates or those with less than 3 years of experience. The program awards up to $50,000 in financial support with a five-year work commitment.
