What You Will Do
- Oversight of daily operations within the assigned laboratory section
- Accurate specimen processing and review of documentation and reports
- Addressing abnormal results, troubleshooting technical and methodology issues, and resolving specimen handling problems
- Technical inquiries related to cytology procedures, instrument operations, and specimen handling
- Evaluation and reporting of gynecological, non-gynecological, and fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens
- Matching requisitions and slides, accurate labeling, and marking diagnostic material for review
- Identifying abnormal or high-risk cases and referring them to the Clinical Pathologist
- Timely and accurate entry of results into the computer system
- Supporting FNA procedures by ensuring all necessary supplies are prepared and specimens are correctly marked
- Collaborating with the Pathologist for adequate evaluation and sample preparation
- Completing proficiency testing accurately and within the designated time frame
- Reviewing and discussing incorrectly diagnosed cases
- Facilitating inventory management, maintaining supplies, and resolving any supply-related issues
- Ensuring proper organization and maintenance of the work area to adhere to cleanliness and safety standards
What You Will Need
- Earn a Bachelor’s degree in Cytotechnology, Biology, or related field from a CAAHEP-accredited program
- Complete an accredited cytotechnology training program
- Certification as a Cytotechnologist/Cytologist, CT(ASCP) certification or eligibility (within the first year of employment if new graduate)
- Minimum of 1 year of Cytotechnology experience preferred but welcome new graduates
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of traditional and modern laboratory methods, with the ability to distinguish color accurately for specimen analysis
