About the role

Serves as a first level supervisor for assigned staff and assists the Director in the supervision of the day-to-day operation of the program/activity. The incumbent reports and works directly with the Director with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assists with providing program oversight and accountability for the performance of employees, the safety of children, and customer needs.
• Supervises staff to include assigning work, conducting performance reviews, and approving leave.
• Establishes local performance standards for employees and volunteers using established standards and requirements and rates employees' performance.
• Ensures facility complies with health, fire, safety, USDA, and program regulatory guidance and standards.
• Observes program participants and identifies signs of illness, abuse or neglect, emotional distress, and follows mandated reporting protocols.
• In conjunction with the Director ensures compliance with standards, criteria, and laws to obtain and retain DoD certification and national accreditation.
• Affords assistance in taking action to implement recommendations or correct deficiencies.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment: Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required. A one-year probationary period may be required. Satisfactory completion of an employment verification (E-Verify) check. This position has regular contact with children under the age of 18. Favorably adjudicated background checks are required. Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth. Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine. Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications. Must maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers certifications. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing. The incumbent is required to have mobility necessary to ensure safety of children and youth and engage in repetitive actions such as walking, standing, bending, stooping, and sitting on the floor. The incumbent must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, to comply with sight and sound supervision requirements and to provide immediate responses when applicable. Tour of duty may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Majority of the work is performed in the CYS facility, including classroom settings, activity areas, and outdoor areas, with occasional indoor and outdoor field trips. Willing and able to work a rotating schedule with hours ranging from 5:30AM to 6PM and occasional weekends.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other fields appropriate to the position. - For positions in Child Development Facilities: The education must have been in child development, early childhood education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as directly related behavioral science. OR One Of The Following Combination of education and experience as stated below in Option 1 & 2: Option 1: A combination of education and experience. Education: 24 semester hours in the majors stated above or a related field (see above), plus appropriate experience. Experience: Candidate must also possess all of the following:1. 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child growth/youth development of which 6 months must be in a supervisory position.2. The McCormick Credential. OR Option 2: A combination of education and experience. Education: 24 semester hours in the majors stated above or a related field (see above), plus appropriate experience. Experience: Candidate must also possess all of the following:1. At least 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principals of child growth/youth development of which 12 months must be in a supervisory position. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Two (2) years of experience working in the early childhood field (six months to five years old). Experience in facility management, training, hiring and supervising employees. One (1) year of experience with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) process. Six (6) months of experience with program budget.
