CYP Child and Youth Program (Teen Coordinator)

Responsibilities

• Programming
  • Assist with the development and supervision of a developmentally appropriate teen program that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
  • Establish activities that foster development through educational and recreational programs.
  • Develop and offer programs related to core areas presented by OPNAV and implement Department of Navy (DoN) required programs such as Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) or 4-H.
  • Organize and conduct special interest activities, including trips, special events, dances, and family-inclusive activities.
  • Involve youth and teens in the planning process to ensure activities meet their social and recreational needs.
  • Collaborate with other military installations to plan regional teen activities.
  • Collect information on participant interests and needs, and make recommendations for program improvements.
• Indoor/Outdoor Environment
  • Prepare facilities or outdoor spaces for scheduled activities, ensuring all safety requirements are met.
  • Secure necessary supplies and equipment, ensuring they are age-appropriate and in good condition.
  • Maintain control of indoor and outdoor equipment, games, and supplies, ensuring proper storage.
• Interactions and Relationships
  • Establish a program environment that enhances physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development while sustaining participant interest.
  • Model appropriate sportsman-like conduct for CYP employees, volunteers, and participants.
  • Use child and youth guidance techniques that encourage positive social interactions, conflict resolution, self-control, self-motivation, and self-esteem.
• Supervision of Children and Youth
  • Provide care, supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with local policies and standards.
  • Ensure activities promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth of youth and teens.
• Outreach
  • Publicize upcoming teen, fitness, and sports events and communicate community opportunities to families.
  • Visit local housing areas to encourage teen participation in programs.
  • Assist in developing a youth sponsorship program to integrate dependent youth of DoD military personnel new to the installation, including outreach, newcomer orientation, and peer-to-peer opportunities.
• Personnel Management
  • Supervise a staff of three or more, including Program Assistants (CY-1702-I/II; GS-1702-02/03/04/05) and Operations Clerks (NF-0303-01/GS-0303-02).
  • Initiate and implement personnel actions, including selection, assignments, training, promotions, disciplinary actions, and recognition of employees and volunteers.
  • Support and carry out established EEO objectives and policies in personnel management.
  • Establish local performance standards for employees and volunteers and rate their performance.
  • Resolve personnel-related complaints and make recommendations for corrective action.
• Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all fire, safety, and security rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and regulations applicable to DoD CY programs.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibilities of the Youth Director in their absence, under the supervision of the CYP Director with oversight.
  • Assist in preparing grant applications for additional funding.
  • Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services in cases of suspected child abuse or neglect.
